Over the weekend, I gave my kitchen a declutter and a BIG clean! Meaning alllll of those huge big jobs, like cleaning the oven, kitchen cabinet tops, pulled everything out of each cupboard, cleaned and purged! BIG job but I am so glad I did it! Right at the very back of one of my cupboards was a plate rack that I had painted about 10 years ago and thought that I would turn it into a Repurposed Farmhouse Plate Rack and be able to display some of my sweet Vintage plates that I have collected.
Repurposed Farmhouse Plate Rack
*This post contains affiliate links. Which means I may receive a very small commission to go towards my painting addiction ???? . It does NOT result in additional charges to you or cost you anything extra. See here for my full disclosure*
Supplies needed:
- Wooden Plate Rack
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint
- Paint Brush
- 120 Sander Block
- Americana Mixed Media Stencil
- Spouncer
- Americana Creme Wax
I had to remove some dust bunnies that had very happily made a home on the rack. Then I went to town using the Chalk Paint. Three coats to be exact!
Once dry, I used my sanding block to distress. If you’re unsure where to sand to get a nice distressed look, my Best Ways to Distress might get you on the right track 😉
Then using my spouncer and black paint I stencilled on the word “Farm”. Once dry, I then sanded back a little.
Then I applied some wax, using my paint brush.
Handy Hint: Always use a separate brush for your wax and paint.
I hope I have inspired you in some way to use what you already may have lying around when decorating!
It will be sure to save you a tonne of money along the way!
So as much as it was great to declutter and tidy up things, it was also nice to be able to save something and repurpose the plate rack and give it a new Farmhouse look!
Don’t have time to make now? Be sure to PIN for later 🙂
