Because most of us didn’t start our creative businesses because we wanted to become bookkeepers, marketers, customer service departments, stock managers, content creators, therapists, problem-solvers, and human-shaped stress balls.

We started because we loved something.

A feeling.
A vision.
A way of seeing the world.
A desire to create something beautiful and share it with other people.

And then life happened.

And sometimes, life does not happen gently in the background. Sometimes it barges through the door, knocks over the furniture, empties your energy tank, messes with your confidence, tests your heart, shakes your health, and then has the audacity to ask if you’re still posting consistently.

The story behind Still Standing

I created Still Standing: The Creative Business Survival Workbook because I needed something like this myself.

I am the owner of Raggedy Bits Emporium, a creative vintage-inspired space filled with handmade pieces, vintage finds, workshops, markets, a coffee bar, beautiful booth holders, and a community of people who love the same cosy, creative, nostalgic things I do.

I built it from the ground up with creativity, stubbornness, big dreams, probably too much coffee, and a deep belief that beauty, warmth, handmade things, and creative spaces still matter in this world.

But behind the pretty shelves, the workshops, the markets, the social media posts, and the little moments people see online, there has also been a lot they haven’t seen.

I don’t need to share every detail of what the last little while has held, but I will say this: there were moments where I was trying to recover physically, work through heartbreak, hold myself together emotionally, and keep my business standing all at the same time.

There has been recovery.
There has been business pressure.
There have been financial worries.
There have been difficult decisions.
There have been moments where my confidence quietly disappeared.
There have been days where I wondered how on earth I was meant to hold everything together.

And still, somehow, I kept going.

Not perfectly.
Not gracefully.
Not with a colour-coded plan and a motivational playlist.

Just one day at a time.
One decision at a time.
One small act of stubbornness at a time.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I started writing.

At first, I think I was just trying to make sense of things.

Trying to understand what was still working.
What needed to go.
Where my energy was leaking.
What I could actually sell.
What I needed to stop carrying.
What my next chapter might look like.

And then I realised something.

I’m not the only creative woman who has had to keep showing up while quietly carrying a lot behind the scenes.
