This Vintage Farmhouse Alphabet Wall Hanger was a project that I’d been putting off. Not because it’s hard or anything like that but the logistics of getting the Alphabet large enough proved to be a little tricky. I didn’t want the hanger to be small so with this month International Bloggers Club being all about Linen or Silk it was time to have a crack!
How to Make A Vintage Farmhouse Alphabet Wall Hanger
Remember the old alphabet hangers that used to hang on the wall in your classroom at school? That was the effect that I was looking for but not so big that you need a gigantic large wall to hang it on. So let me share with you how I made mine.
Supplies needed:
- 17″ W x 24″ H Scrap linen or drop cloth
- Iron
- 2 x 18.5″ L x 1″ Scrap wood
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Chocolate Sample
- Staple Gun
- IOD Decor Stamp – Typesetting
- Ink
- Brayer
- Jute
Step 1 – Lay out your material and iron to get rid of any wrinkles. Water down your chocolate paint ratio 2:1 and using an old lint-free cloth wipe over your wood to create a nice stain. Let dry.
Step 2 – Place your Typesetting stamps face down from A to Z spacing evenly. Then using your transfer film pickup your stamps. {See above video} Using your brayer load up your stamps with ink. Flip and stamp being super careful not to move your stamps. Otherwise, you will end up with a blurred effect.
Step 3 – Let the ink dry for 24 hrs and then heat set with your iron. Then using your staple gun attach to your scrap wood, both top and bottom. Tie a double knot at the end of your jute and also attach using your staple gun. Repeat for the other side to create a loop for hanging.
And there you have a fun piece of wall art to remind you of yesteryear!
