This old Dolls Highchair is a bit of a special piece for my hubby and I. We bought it about 7 years ago when we began our journey of becoming parents. The first time for my hubby but I already have 2 beautiful grown-up kiddos. Sadly we have endured a tough road and had multiple miscarriages. But recently we both thought it was time to give it a makeover rather than it sitting around collecting dust. So today I’m sharing a fun way to Upcycle A Vintage Dolls Chair.
How To Upcycle A Vintage Dolls Chair
How can you tell if a piece of furniture has wax on it?
The best way to check is by scratching your fingernails over the piece and if you see any build-up under your fingernails it’s advised to give the whole piece a good cleaning with white spirits. This will remove any wax build-up and give your paint the best chance of adhering correctly.
Supplies needed:
- Dolls Highchair
- Fusion – TSP
- Fusion – Divine Lavender and Plaster
- Cling On! Oval 35 Brush
- 2 x Flat Brushes
- Fusion – Clear Wax
- Wax Brush
- IOD Decor Transfer – Wander
- Brayer
- Stone Gray Ink
- IOD Decor Stamp – Kindest Regards
Step 1 – Give your entire piece a good old clean with TSP. Then give the entire dolls highchair 2 coats of Divine Lavender. Letting each coat dry in between.

Step 2 – Working from the top of the dolls highchair because you don’t want to spray your finished work as it dries. Spray the back with your spritzer and paint a small square in Plaster using your flat brush. Then take your second flat brush and paint a square around the Plaster in Divine Lavender. Be sure to make sure you keep the white dipped past of the brush towards the centre otherwise you will mix your paint too much.
Finish blending where you would like. I ended up just keeping the blending to the front of the chair because it looked too busy. {See above video}
Almost finished!
Step 3 – Pick out the transfers from the Wander range and apply to your high chair. Be sure to make sure that your paint is completely dried before applying the transfers.
Step 4 – Load up your brayer with ink and apply to the Kindest Regard Stamp and lightly stamp over the decor transfer. Let dry.
Step 5 – Once you’re happy give your entire piece a wax using your wax brush.
And now your Vintage Highchair is all ready to create lots more precious memories for someone special!
Happy Painting!
