One of the many things I love to do is go in search of new goodies that just need a little TLC and be given a new lease on life. This was the case for this Ikea Lack Table along with a little side table that I picked up at the same time. Sharing the $5 Garage Sale Ikea Lack Table Make over that turned a sad dust covered table into something a little more!
The $5 Garage Sale Ikea Lack Table Make Over
I neglected to take a picture before I started so this is one I’ve borrowed from the Ikea catalogue! Except, the table I rescued was covered in dust and cobwebs and heavily scratched!
Supplies Needed:
- Ikea Lack Table
- Chalk Paint – I used a mix of my own Milk Coloured Chalk Paint. Or you could Fusion Mineral Paint with a Beeswax Stick.
- 120 grit Sandpaper and sander
- Transfer Paper
- Deco Art Lamp Black Acrylic Paint
- No. 2 Round Brush
- Liner Brush
- Wax
- Chux Cloth
Step 1 – Give your table 2 to 3 coats of chalk paint or Fusion Mineral Paint. If you decided to paint using Fusion Mineral Paint make sure you apply the beeswax stick to areas that you would like distressed and the black to come through. Then using your sander distress the entire table.

Step 2 – You may ask why on earth would you want the word Love on a piece of furniture. To me, the world would be so lost without Love and that’s what inspired me and how I painted the piece 🙂 You can change the word to something that may touch and inspire you! 🙂
Print of the word love using your favourite font along with the meaning. I just pulled it straight from the dictionary! Using the transfer paper transfer it onto the top of the table. Then using a 3 round brush for the LOVE and then 10/0 script brush for the meaning dipped in Americana Black paint.

Step 3 – Sand the wording slightly to distress.
Step 4 – Take your chux cloth and wax the entire table to seal all of your hard work.
And ta daaaaaa here you have a made over $5 Garage Sale Ikea Lack Table!(Boy what a mouth full!!)

Such a great transformation! The color is fabulous. What a great job you did making it your own! Thanks for linking up at the Talk of the Town party!
What kind of wax did you use?
Hi Larissa, Thank you for your question about what wax I used. I used an organic beeswax which I picked up at Home Hardware but any wax would do the trick 🙂
This table is so lovely, Sam. I love the color and the stencil. Beautiful!
Thank you, Carolann! It was a fun make over!
Love this Sam! Did you use the transfer paper from your machine or the one that goes in the printer?
This was just printed out onto normal paper and then using transfer paper transferred onto the table and hand painted!
