It’s one of those really proud moments when you are asked to be a part of someone’s special day with something that you love doing! That was the case for me when a very lovely couple on New Year’s Eve just past, asked me to provide them with a lemonade stand and 6 Vintage Games on their wedding day! Sharing how a set of Sad Old Drawers turned Lemonade Stand for a very Special Day!
Sad Old Drawers turned Lemonade Stand for a very Special Day!

These drawers were not so complete when I found them on the side of the road. With a missing back, unable to open the bottom drawer and a peeling top.

To start off with I began sanding off the peeling and badly marked top using my sander with 240 grit sand paper. It took a while as I think the previous owner may have just kept adding layers to try and hide the dings in it.

Once all of the varnish was removed and the wood was exposed with all its lumps and bumps, I then sanded again using my smaller sander using 120 grit sandpaper to give it a nice smooth finish.

I’m really loving all of the wooden topped pieces that I have been doing recently and decided to do the same with this gorgeous piece. So I gave the top a nice teak stain. Then gave it 3 coats of varnish and let dry in the beautiful sun!

Once the top was dry I painted the bottom half of the drawers.
Firstly I removed the handles, which were gold, and once removed I spray painted them using black rust-oleum.
Then using my Antique White Chalk Paint I painted my merry heart away. The entire piece had 3 coats in total.
Then using a piece of wood that I had laying around from another set of drawers that I pulled apart, it just so happened to fit the back of these drawers!! YAYEE otherwise I would have had to cut another piece out to measure.
Once all hammered into place I then used my smaller sander to sand back the chalk paint to let some of the wood come through.

Here she is all set up to make her debut appearance at her very first lovely wedding.

There were 100 guests at the wedding and not enough drawer space for all of the jars. So I used my ladder to display the rest!
The games were supposed to be out on the lawn. But the wedding venue decided 2 weeks out from the wedding to fill in the lawn area in with concrete!!!! Oh did I feel for the Bride and the Groom! 🙁
