It’s that fun time of the month again for our Inspired Makers Challenge. That’s where a group of my blogging pals and I get together with a theme and get making! This month’s theme is Red, White and Blue. This fits in perfect for Independence Day coming up over the weekend! If you’ve been following me for a while your probably thinking “huh, but your an Aussie”?! Luckily we have the same colours here in Australia! So I’ve put on my patriotic creative cap and come up with some repurposed Vintage Farmhouse Patriotic Wooden Blocks to share with you.
Repurposed Vintage Farmhouse Patriotic Wooden Blocks
Supplies needed:
- 6 x 4cm x 4cm Wooden Blocks – I cut these blocks out years ago using pine.
- Drop Saw if your cutting your own blocks
- Stain
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Fork Red
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Liberty Blue
- Penny & Co. – Picket Fence
- 1/2″ Flat Brush
- No2 Round Brush
- Chalk Pencil
- Sander and 120 grit sandpaper
Step 1 – If you’re cutting your own blocks set your drop saw up and cut your 6 blocks. Sand any rough edges and then stain. If you’re using blocks that already have paint on them, lightly sand so that the colour goes away because you don’t want that coming through later when you distress. Then using your flat brush give one of the faces of the blocks 2 coats of Liberty Blue.
Step 2 – Using your chalk pencil draw the Aussie Flag. I used the pattern from my Aussie Stool Makeover from last year as I guideline. If you don’t feel comfortable drawing freehand shrink down the flag to the size of the blocks then using transfer paper trace the image onto the blocks.
Detail Time Step 3 – Grab your round brush and start blocking in the flag using Fork Red and Picket Fence.
Step 4 – Draw or trace on the stars of the Southern Cross and block in using your round brush in Picket Fence.
Step 5 – It’s sanding time!! Grab your stander and distress to your liking!!
And there you have a fun way to celebrate your country and be grateful where ever you are! Be sure to check out all of the other fabulous Patriotic projects from my blogging pals below!
Happy painting!
