We all have a tone of old pictures and frames hanging around that might be a little dated or we have changed the way we decorate and they don’t fit in anymore. Instead of throwing them out why not try to upcycle an old frame and turn it into something that you love. Today I’m sharing one way on how to give a frame a fresh new Vintage Farmhouse look.
How To Upcycle An Old Frame
Where is the best place to find old music sheets?
In my many years of thrifting, the best place I have found old music sheets is at the thrift store or garage sales.

Supplies needed:
- An Old Frame
- TSP
- Music Sheets
- IOD Mould – Lock & Key
- Clay
- Corn Flour
- Old Doily
- Fusion – Chocolate – Sample
- Fusion – Raw Silk – Sample
- Grit
- Double-Sided Tape
Step 1 – Remove the heart from the bottom of the frame. Pop-out some TSP and give your frame a really good clean with TSP to remove any dust or furniture polish build-up.

Step 2 – Pop out a tiny amount of Chocolate and water down with your brush to get a watering consistency. Apply to your frame until you get the desired colour.
Almost finished!
Step 3 – Taking your music sheet, cut to the insert of your frame and adhere to the frame using double-sided tape.
Dust some cornflour over your Lock & Key Mould on the key or backplate you would like to use. Press enough clay into the mould and scrape away any excess.
Paint the mould while still wet and dry brush with grit.
See Video tutorial below:
Step 4: Using your glue gun, glue your doily into the centre of your frame. Then using wood glue, glue your key. Let completely dry overnight.
Now your new look upcycled frame is all ready to hang or add to a vignette! You could use any of the IOD Moulds for this project depending on what size frame you have!
So many possibilities.
Happy Creating!
