Welcome back to day 2 of our 5 Day Thrifting Painting Challenge! How did you go with your first project? I know some of you have had an absolute ball with transforming them and have LOVED hearing from you and seeing what you’ve been working! Today we are going to have some fun with How To Paint A Farmhouse Shelf Using The Distressing Technique.
How To Paint A Farmhouse Shelf Using The Distressing Technique
Supplies needed:
- Your Thrifted Item
- Fusion Mineral Paint – TSP
- Your favourite colour of paint – I used Fusion Mineral Paint – Cathedral Taupe
- Brush – I used my Cling On! – S30
- 120 grit sandpaper
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Clear Wax
- Wax Brush – I used my Madeline Medium Brush
Step 2 – Add some TSP to some warm water and mix.
Step 2 – Using an old rag clean down your piece and let dry.
Painting Time!
Step 3 – Taking your brush give your piece 2 coats of paint. Letting each coat dry completely. Keep an eye out for bleed through with these old orange coloured pine pieces because quite often oils from the wood seep through the paint. If this does happen, stop what your doing and grab some BIN All in one stain blocker and give the bleed through 2 to 3 coats. Let dry and then continue painting with your favourite paint colour.
I was super lucky with this piece and there wasn’t any bleed through.
Step 4 – Grab your 120 grit sandpaper and distress to your liking. Then using your wax brush apply wax evenly.
HANDY HINT:
When distressing think about where your piece would wear naturally over time.
And your all done! Time to now go and grab your piece and have some fun paainting and distressing!
