After being an old country wares collector back in the day when Prim Country was “in”, I had kept a few pieces to give them a new lease on life. That was the case with this old calendar holder. It’s been sitting in the “to do” pile for quite some time waiting patiently for me to do something with it. If you have been following me for a while you know how much I love to repurpose things. This project was no different. Sharing how I repurposed this old calendar holder into a Farmhouse Chalkboard.
Farmhouse Chalkboard from an Old Calendar Holder
*This post contains affiliate links. Which means I may receive a very small commission to go towards my painting addiction ? It does NOT result in additional charges to you or cost you anything extra. See here for my full disclosure*
Supplies Needed:
- Old Calendar Holder or large frame
- Americana Deco Art Blackboard Paint
- Paint Brush – I used a 1/2″ Flat Brush
- Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint – Beeswax
- Soft lint-free cloth
- Enamel Number
- Faux Green Wreath
- White Chalk
- Glue Gun
- Small cup hook of using a normal frame
Step 1 – Remove the heart at the bottom of the frame. I used a pair of small pliers to remove the stable and then the heart came free.
Step 2 – Give the MDF part of the frame 2 to 3 coats of chalkboard paint.
Drying Time Step 4 – Use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.
Dull Wood? Step 5 – Using your lint free cloth apply the Miss Mustard Seed Beeswax to the frame. This will give the timber a nice lustre and also protect it.
Season time Step 6 – Take your chalk and turn it sideways and rub over the entire chalkboard to season it.
Step 7 – Using your glue gun, glue the enamel number onto the base of the frame.
Step 8 – If using a normal frame attached the small cup hook to the inside of the top of the frame. With some jute tie on the wreath making sure that you leave enough room at the bottom of the frame to chalk in the word “hello”
Ta da! There you have a cute Farmhouse Chalkboard to add to your home!
Happy Painting!

I remember the decor your talking about. I had teddy bear everything in that style. I really like this simple updo using them, but the wreath makes all the difference. Very pretty Sam.
Ahhh yes, Teddy’s and Rag Dolls were my thing too! But good that you can repurpose and make it all resonate with today’s decor 🙂
