You know you have awesome friends when they get who you are and know what you love doing. Our dear friends down the road were getting rid of their spare bed and asked if I would like it. I nearly threw my back out with excitement and gratefully accepted. We have had a bedroom that has been without a bed in it since we moved in 2 years ago and sure would help to squeeze in all the family when they come to stay! Today I’m sharing how to paint a farmhouse bed frame for a Fresh new look.
How To Paint A Farmhouse Bed Frame For A Fresh New Look
So before you throw out your old bed, grab your paintbrush and your favourite paint and see how fun it is to breathe some new life into it.
Supplies needed:
- Wooden Bed Frame – Dismantled it’s easier to paint this way
- Fusion Mineral Paint – TSP
- Some old clean rags
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Beeswax Stick
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Little Stork
- Paint Brush
- 120 grit sandpaper and sander
- Fusion Mineral Paint – Wax
Step 1 – Pop one capful of TSP into some warm water and mix. Then using your rags give the entire bedframe a wipe down. Let dry completely. Then over all the places where you would like the wood to still come trough rub with your beeswax stick. This acts as a resistance to paint and makes it much easier for the paint to come off when distressing. Using your brush give the entire bed 2 coats of paint. For this queen size bed, I used one pot of paint.
Step 2 – Grab your sander and start distressing to your liking!
Step 3 – Wax the entire bed frame. Let the bed dry properly for 24 to 48 hours before putting it all back together.
It just amazes me with what the power of paint can do! And now my family has somewhere nice and cosy to sleep instead of the floor!
Happy Painting!

Fantastic. Isn’t paint the most wonderful things? Paint changes anything and makes it feel fresh and new again.
I’m finishing up candle holders with chalk paint and waxes to give them a French look and I am over the moon with the first one so far. Can’t wait to finish.
Enjoy your weekend

Sure is Cindy!! Hope you had fun painting up your candle holders!! Would love to see them!!
Thank goodness for paint. Whoever invented it many, many moons ago deserves a medal in my humble opinion 🙂 That old bed is totally transformed, you’d never say it was the same one. And I just have to ask, where did you get that beautiful spoon and fork on either side? They’re stunning and fir the whole look of the room so perfectly.
I TOTALLY agree with you, Michelle!!! I love the power of paint and what it can do!
That turned out awesome Sam!
Thank you, Deborah!
